Q - What is a pest?

A - A pest is defined as any organism which is detrimental to man or his environment in some way.

Fact: A fly itself is not a pest although a fly in an operating room or a restaurant is considered to be a pest. That fly could cause loss of reputation or contamination.

Cockroaches


Q - Where do cockroaches come from?

A - The cockroach origin is not clear but scientists believe the cockroach survived the ice age.

Fact: The most common species of cockroaches in the Midwest is the German Cockroach. The German Cockroach egg carries up to 38 babies in one egg.

Q - How can I eliminate cockroaches?

A - Eliminate all food and water sources. Make sure all cracks and crevices are sealed.

Ants


Q - I am the maintenance supervisor for a senior retirement home. We get ants all through the year. What can I do to control this problem?

A - If it is a minor problem, you can buy the ant bait stations at your local hardware store. For any type of major infestation, call Quality & Excellence, Inc. for your free inspection. In order to get the best results, the ants have to be properly identified to determine the proper application.


Q - How can you tell the difference between ants and termites?

A - The ant has three restricted body parts, where as the termite has only two.

Q - Can ants do damage to wood?

A - The carpenter ant can cause a considerable amount of damage if left untreated for a long period of time. Ants do not do nearly as much damage as termites. Quality & Excellence, Inc. also offers subterranean termite inspections.

Mice


Q - How do mice get into homes or businesses?

A - Mice and rats will find some place close to your home or facility to make burrows. Next, they patrol the exterior perimeter looking for any crack or hole to enter. Rodents will enter through faulty underground pipes, sewers, gutters, and cracks in the foundation. They can climb trees to the roof. They can also walk unnoticed through the front door.

Q - I am the supervisor of quality control in a large bakery. My crew has sealed up all the holes and cracks but somehow mice are still getting in. What more can I do?
